Outcome 1a. Describe the evolving nature of the core values and
ethics within diverse information environments.
In LIS 701, we were assigned to write a paper on an issue facing libraries today. I decided to write on the topic of neutrality in libraries. The ALA has advocated for certain principles within libraries, one of them being neutrality, but this stance has been recently challenged . In my paper, I write about how neutrality might not be possible, but it is essential that we strive towards being free of bias to keep us open to serve. Previously neutrality was the goal, but today's misinformation trends requires that librarians have a more proactive approach.

Outcome 1b. Demonstrate how a philosophy, theory, model, and/or
major perspective of the library and information profession guides
practice in diverse settings.
I completed an independent study while in the program. During the study, I focused on collection management and development trends. I worked with Estevan Muñoz and Dr. Mary Pat Fallon at the Rebecca Crown Library. We would meet weekly to discuss models, perspectives, policies, and resources for collection building. One of my final papers required that I write about the differences between collection development policies between an academic and a public library with particular attention to popular materials. After learning about best practices and strategies, I wrote this paper I explored how both public and academic libraries should hold room for popular materials for the collection. This is an approach that some librarians have disagreed with, but contemporary needs surrounding diversity and access have shifted this mindset.

Outcome 1c. Participate in professional activities and associations, such
as professional conferences and meetings, internships and practicums,
and professional email discussions and social media.
From June 2022 to December 2022 I interned at the Poetry Foundation Library. During my time there I cataloged books of poetry, chapbooks, literary criticism, anthologies, and children's books. I also often sat at the front desk to help with any patron inquiries. While working at the front desk one day, a patron asked me about our collection development policy. I could not locate it so I asked the Library Director about it, but apparently the library had not published one. We set up a date to meet and talk about the collection development policy in order to solidify and publish one. The attached are what we came up with during our meeting.
